Welcome back to AmeriCorps Journals! In this entry I’m going to share with you the reason I committed to serving with AmeriCorps. To help do that, I’m going to start with a story about a woman that I know.

This woman was born in a small town and grew up in a large family. In elementary school she won spelling bees, and in high school she was named valedictorian. Above all, she dreamed of raising a family, and so when her children were born, she put her college education on hold. A few years down the road, after a divorce, she balanced work with parenthood.

Welcome back to AmeriCorps Journals! A lot has happened since I posted my last entry, and I’m excited to get you caught up. In the past few months, I’ve been spending some time taking care of an essential part of modern life—paying bills! Each month, money goes out of my bank account to cover cell phone, internet, rent, utilities, auto loan, auto insurance, federal student loan, private student loan, and credit card payments. What a way to spend the summer!
